Marriage traditions

The Azerbaijani wedding tradition is one of the most significant and solemn family traditions of the Azerbaijani nation. It is complex and multi-stepped, and is related to various compulsory rituals and traditions. Ancient Azerbaijani weddings reflect cycles of traditions, lasting for a long period of time, and need significant material costs. The wedding itself consists of three levels: pre-wedding period (matchmaking, engagement, contracting a marriage), wedding and after wedding period. Wedding elements of the Azerbaijani nation also influence cultures and peoples of other nations living in Azerbaijan, including Lezgians, Khinaligs and Tsakurs.
