Saheb A Zaman Club Zurkhaneh

The Zurkhaneh ("house of strength"), is a uniquely Iranian institution. It is a sport which cherishes values: Strength combined with chivalry and generosity. 

The Saheb A Zaman Club Zurkhaneh in Yazd is the only Zurkhaneh which permits women to watch. It is located in a beautiful old ice house (dating from 1580) with four magnificent Badgirs gracing the roof. Certainly one of the most interesting and powerful things I could see in Iran.  Of course, one can not be sure what modern personal trainers would say about their techniques but it is certainly interesting. If you have a chance, do try to get there.
