They also have a couple of laptop computers for your use. Guests can use the shared fridge and microwave to cook simple meals in the kitchen. Every room at the hostel is decorated in a simple style with 4 bunk beds and 2 bathrooms are fitted with a shower.
Finding the hostel can be a hassle, as they had no advertising signs and you basically had to rely on directions you read about the hostel. It is especially difficult since there are like 6 different entrances to the building they are in, and you have to use the correct entrance.
As for English and communication, it's true that it can be a problem. But the owner's wife speak quite good English, and is very friendly and eager to chat when she is around. The owner of the hostel speak virtually no English.
The Apple hostel has a newly opened branch in Astana.
It's someone's apartment so it feels like home. Staff are friendly, although they don't speak much English (you can use Google Translate to communicate). Comparably big and comfortable rooms. Free Wi-Fi and free laundry service. There is no clothes dryer but there is a balcony where you can hang your clothes to dry. Big and fully equipped kitchen. Close to the Metro station. The staff can help you to arrange taxis at a reasonable price. You need to take off your shoes before you step into the hostel so that helps to keep the carpet clean. The Apple hostel Almaty has two showers to be shared among 16 people. Language is really a barrier. Unfortunately the hostel not in the city centre, but close to the Metro. Avoid the bunk bed in the Hall/corridor! It may be noisy that you can't sleep as there is no partition between the common room and the hall.
