All Kazakh cities have a broad range of accommodation, from cheap Soviet survivors to comfortable modern hotels. Most of the older places, even some of the basic hotels or dorms in train and bus stations, have been renovated and offer clean accommodation. Prices have gone up: you’ll rarely get a double room with private bathroom for under US$40. But a dorm bed or basic room with shared bathroom can still be found for cheaper prices in most places. Two people with 100 USD to spend on a room can indulge in considerable comfort in most of the country.
In many attractive areas outside the cities, there are now homestay options. You can make bookings for many of these through our company. Many hotels offer discounts if you occupy the room for not more than 12 hours, a period known as a pol-sutki. But bizarrely, some hotels actually charge you for making an advance reservation.
