Grand Bukhara hotel brings back memories of travelling in the Soviet Union. Big, soulless building, hotel elevators are often unavailable for use and this is a complication for large tour groups using the hotel.The major drawbackof the hotel is its location which is around 30 minute walk from historical Bukhara. The rooms and the services are good but the food is below average.

Nevertheless the staff is very attentive both in reception and restaurant.  There are a couple of shops and a post office in the hotel. The positive side is that the hotel underwent recent renovation resulted in freshly painted surfaces plus newer windows, doors, carpets and such. All is very clean. There is nothing else to walk to nearby. A few shops in the lobby, the TV had the BBC in English.

There are 148 rooms in the hotel. The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortableand everything works. The bed in the room is rock hard.You can have problem with warm water in the morning. There are no room safes.  You should always keep important documents and money in money belts with you. Keep a very close watch on all valuables such cameras or cell phones and check all drawers and closets thoroughly before you leave!

The breakfast buffet is medium size, quite good,but sticks with baked goods and French toast and avoids the tepid/warm dishes on offer. Coffee is watery instant.Don't be late for breakfast because the food, coffee, plates and cutlery get used and they don't seem able to copeto replace them  in time with all the large tour groups staying there when high tourism season.You can have delicious meals outside the hotel.Sometimes restaurant don't work which is probably due to insufficient demand (when occupancy seems fairly low).
