Ark Samarkand lux hotel enjoys a central location close to famous Registan complex. All other major tourist landmarks of this ancient city are within walking distance.
The hotels is in 2 floor building in a crescent shape. It has a terrace, 24-hour front desk and a restaurant. Nice sitting area on the second floor opposite the guestrooms. All furniture, decorations, doors are made of lacquered wood, very Uzbek in style.
The homely rooms at Ark Samarkand Lux are simply furnished in light brown colours. All rooms have a small flat-screen TV, walk-in closet and a private modern bathroom with walk-in shower. Slippers are provided. Wooden beds are small and a bit hard. Generally the rooms are very basic, this is a real 'budget' level in direct sense. Only two power sockets in triple room. To turn the air condition one would need to ask for extension cord. Towels and linen have seen better times and look completely worn-out. Problems with the water supply are often reported (in 2013), which seems to be not the hotel fault, but still to be taken into account.
At the restaurant of Ark Samarkand Lux you can taste meals of Uzbek cuisine. The bar serves a variety of drinks. Breakfast is ok is served in the inviting basement. You can also use the vending machines for drinks and snacks.
The staff is in need of proper training, though helpful and friendly. English is hardly spoken.
There are better alternatives in Samarkand with much more greater comfort and character.
