Sherdor Hotel is built in traditional Uzbek style, looks a little like a fortress when approached from the street and located in the centre of Samarkand. Hotel offers a nice view over the famous Polish Church and situated close to the main historical sights of Samarkand. The area is very quiet and relatively close to Timur Street with lots of good local open air cafes and restaurants.

It is a 20-25 minute walk to the Registan, but a taxi is inexpensive and would be even less if you ask the staff to arrange you one. There is friendly, very helpful and attentive staff, taking care of you round the clock. They would be happy to assist you with planning your sightseeing and finding suitable transportation.

To get to your room you have to pass am inviting courtyard with very inviting local style tapchans and soft pillows. Rooms are fine, spacious, very clean, with comfortable beds and large bathrooms. Rooms are well decorated with old pictures on walls and bowls/plates around, lots of wood which give the room a warm appearance. The furniture is very basic but quite OK:  wooden beds, a small table, TV on the shelf from the wall. The courtyard rooms are good, but in rooms 1 and 2 you can hear everything that is going on in the reception area.

Sometimes there is a problem with lack of hot water. But hotel stuff quickly resolves this problem. It would take 10-15 min of running before the water gets hot. Also, the gas pressure is low so it would take 15-20 min for them to boil water for the tea. It's not the hotel's fault really, but perhaps the management can learn and finally buy basic electric teapots.

The common areas in and outdoor are very nice and inviting. When temperature permits, the courtyard is a nice place to have coffee/tea and/or read a book.  You can also use the saune adjacent to the hotel if you happen to be here in the colder periods.

Breakfast is decent -sausage, tea, some kind of cottage cheese , pancakes, bread, eggs, fruit etc. and plenty of it. There is bar in the lobby.  For dinner you have to go to town, there is not much to choose from.

The staff was very attentive and helpful, speak excellent English.
