Around Yerevan

Around Yerevan mapBecause Armenia has so much history centred on its capital, it's easy to see many sites on half-day excursions from Yerevan. Any place in the five central provinces of Aragatsotn, Ararat, Armavir, Gegharkunik and Kotayk can be visited on a day trip from Yerevan except for the eastern parts of Gegharkunik.

The most popular excursions are the town of Ashtarak together with the fortress and monastery at Amberd in Aragatsotn; the monastery of Khor Virap in Ararat with its stunning views of the mountain in clear weather; the churches of Ejmiatsin and the monument and museum at Sardarapat in Armavir; Lake Sevan and the Sevan Monastery in Gegharkunik; and the temple at Garni and monastery at Geghard which are close to each other in Kotayk. All of these are standard places on most visitors' itineraries. But if to choose just one highly recommended would be the amazing field of khachkars at Noratus.
