History of Yerevan Museum

(1 Argishti St; 568185; www.yerevanhistorymuseum.am; 11.00-17.30 Mon-Sat, closed Sun)

Located in the new City Hall (see page 130); enter the History of Yerevan Museum by the far left-hand door. This well-laid out museum on three floors traces the history of Yerevan from ancient times to the early 21st century. Most items are labelled in English as well as Armenian but signs indicating which period each floor covers are only in Armenian. The first floor is ancient and medieval although the model in the centre shows 19th-century Yerevan, with archaeological sites at each corner; the second covers the 19th century whilst the third focuses on the 20th century. The third floor shows domestic scenes, including traditional Easter and New Year decorations.
