Amircan
One of the oldest and most interesting towns on the peninsula, Amircan, is hidden away in the shadow of Suraxani. Under its former name, Xille, it was famed for its buta-motif carpets some of which are displayed in Baku's Carpet Museum. It was the home village of the boom-era industrialist Muxtarov who graced the town with its elegant mosque - generally considered the finest still standing in the whole of Azerbaijan. It is also the birthplace of the great modern artist Sattar Bahlulzade of whom there is a splendid statue at the southern edge.
