Here is the algorithm to follow when you arrive to Tbilisi airport:

  1. most important thing!!! When exiting the airport, walk past the taxi drivers standing there and calling people over — they will definitely rip you off… use mobile apps to order a taxi
  2. it’s easier to bring rubles with you (Russian bank cards are not accepted, exchange rates can be checked and compared on the website)
  3. we exchange 1000 roubles at the airport for transport — the current rate is 31–34 lari per 1000₽, only 2 exchange offices at the airport offer this rate (in the others the rate is awful!), exchange the rest of the money in the city at a better rate
  4. there are 2 ways to get to the city: taxi via the Yandex GO app, the cost is 23–25 lari, payment cash only, and remember point 1!!! Bus — route 337, runs during the day every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., does not run at night! The stop is after exiting the arrivals hall, go outside and walk 100 meters to the right. On the bus, payment is possible only by bank card NOT from Russia, or with a Tbilisi transport card Metromoney, which can be purchased at Bank of Georgia — branches are located in both the arrivals and departures halls, the card costs 2 lari, the fare is 1 lari, you can pay for several passengers at once, the card also works in the metro. You can ask other passengers to pay for you and give them cash, but they need to be going to your stop or further!
  5. getting around the city is easier and cheaper by Yandex Go taxi — 4–5 lari on average within the city, to farther places like Tbilisi Sea 10–11 lari, Mtskheta Jvari Monastery 33 lari
  6. Connectivity: at the airport, Wi-Fi works without registration, you just connect after watching an ad (scroll through 4 pages). I bought a Magti SIM — there is an office in the arrivals hall, but it didn’t work out with the staff member and they offer expensive plans. I went to their office in the city, they explained all the tariffs, I took unlimited internet for 10 lari per week + 10 lari for the SIM card itself, it was set up in 5 minutes, inserted it into the phone and had internet immediately, no registration or entering anything needed. Good luck to everyone ❤️

You should buy this one — it costs 2 lari, the fare is 1 lari, and you can pay for several people with one card. It also allows unlimited travel for 1.5 hours after the first validation on any type of public transport. (After the first trip, all subsequent rides within 90 minutes on the metro, bus, or minibus are not charged.)

This is the bank where the transport card for paying metro and bus fares is sold.
