Is Kazbegi Worth Staying Overnight, or Is a Day Trip from Tbilisi Enough?

We're visiting Georgia for a week and trying to decide what to do about Kazbegi.

Most organised tours go there from Tbilisi and return the same evening, but several blogs recommend spending the night instead.

Is there really enough to justify staying longer, or is the church and the mountain view pretty much the whole experience?

Rent a Car in Azerbaijan or Hire a Driver?

We're spending ten days in Azerbaijan this September and can't decide whether to rent a car or hire a driver.

The plan is Baku → Gobustan → Lahij → Sheki → Quba → Khinalig.

We normally enjoy driving ourselves when travelling, but several people have warned us about local traffic and mountain roads.

Those who've done it—which option would you recommend?

Should I stay in Quba overnight or not?

We're driving from Baku to Khinalig and will probably pass through Quba around lunchtime.

Most itineraries seem to treat it as a quick stop before continuing into the mountains. Is there enough to justify spending the night, or should we simply continue straight to Khinalig?

Is Turkistan worth visiting If you're not interested in religious sites?

I'm planning a trip through southern Kazakhstan and keep seeing Turkistan mentioned in guidebooks.

To be honest, I'm not particularly interested in religious pilgrimage sites. I enjoy history and architecture, but I'm wondering whether Turkistan offers enough to justify travelling there, or whether I'd be better off spending another day in Almaty or heading straight to Shymkent.

Is the Singing Dune the only real attraction of Altyn-Emel National Park?

Most travel blogs focus on the Singing Dune, but it's a long drive just to see one sand dune. Is there enough to justify spending a full day—or even staying overnight?

We're driving from Baku towards Sheki and were planning to stop in Lahij for a couple of hours before continuing west. Now I've seen several people recommending spending the night there instead.

Is there really enough to do after the day visitors leave, or is Lahij mainly somewhere to wander around for an afternoon?

Should I spend time exploring Almaty, or use it only as a base for day trips?

We're flying into Almaty and have seven days in Kazakhstan.

Originally we planned to spend one night in the city before heading off to Charyn Canyon, Kolsai Lakes and Altyn-Emel. Looking at other itineraries, though, quite a few people seem to recommend staying in Almaty for two or three days.

Did anyone actually find the city interesting enough to spend time there, or is it mainly somewhere to recover between excursions?

I’ll be visiting Georgia for two weeks in late September. Planning to spend time in Tbilisi, so some hiking in the mountains. I need travel insurance but I don’t want to overpay.

has anyone recently bought insurance for a trip to Georgia? Do you prefer international companies or local ones? Any advice or personal experience would be really helpful!

Is Dilijan overrated or is it actually worth visiting?

I'm putting together a one-week itinerary for Armenia.

Almost every tour seems to include Dilijan, but I'm struggling to understand what actually makes it special. Is it somewhere you'd spend a whole day, or is it simply a convenient place to stop for lunch before continuing to Sevan?

Initially I planned to rent a 4WD, but now I'm wondering if hiring a driver would actually make more sense. We enjoy road trips and usually drive ourselves when travelling, but I've read mixed comments about mountain roads, local driving habits and insurance.
