For one transit day in Yerevan, a walking route around the center is perfect:

  1. Cascade Complex – start here, go up to the top for a panorama of the city and Mount Ararat (there are free exhibitions inside).
  2. Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet and a walk along Northern Avenue to Republic Square – the main square with the singing fountains (show in the evening).
  3. Matenadaran (ancient manuscripts) or Yerevan Brandy Company – your choice, if there’s time left.
  4. Vernissage Market – a souvenir market (open on weekends and weekdays).

Practical tips:

· From the airport, take a taxi via the app Yandex Go ~2000–3000 drams.
· Have lunch around Tamanyan Street – try khinkali, tolma, jingalov hats, and pomegranate juice.
· The center is compact, everything will take about 4–5 hours (of course there may be traffic jams).

A tour to Sevan, Garni, and Geghard lasts about 9–10 hours. Even if they hire a driver, they would have to rush around and see everything quickly, and that’s very uncomfortable. Especially now there’s nothing much to see at Sevan if they have limited time. I came back the day before yesterday — there was strong wind and cold there.

It’s better to suggest a short tour, for example around the city, or only to Garni and Geghard.

Coming to Yerevan and not taking a walk in Yerevan is just wrong 😅 Better to spend your time calmly in Yerevan than to rush around nervously worrying that you might miss your flight 🙃

Could you please give more details?

I would visit places not far from Yerevan, for example Etchmiadzin Cathedral and Zvartnots Cathedral, and then walk around Yerevan, especially if it’s your first time (Republic Square, Cascade, the Opera, Northern Avenue, etc.). I would sit in some café, for example “Tun Lahmajo,” and stop by “Vernissage” (it’s a market for souvenirs and various vintage little things).

The Sergei Parajanov Museum is interesting, but more for a specific taste.
