Transport in Istaravshan

Shared taxis to Dushanbe (100TJS per seat, eight hours, 276km) leave from the southern end of the bazaar. Cars to Penjikent (80TJS to 90TJS, seven hours) leave from 100m further south. A taxi to Dushanbe via an overnight in Iskander-Kul starts at around US$140.

The best option to Khojand is one of the shared taxis (7TJS per seat, 1,5 hours) across from the bazaar, otherwise minibuses (4TJS) run from the main bus stand, 3km north of the centre. Marshrutkas 4, 6 and 18 shuttle up and down Lenin between the bazaar, Hotel Istaravshan and the bus station.
