Visas

Almost all travelers to Tajikistan need a visa, usually obtained from a Tajik consulate in advance of arrival. An additional GBAO permit (Gorno-Badakshan Autonomous Oblast) is necessary for any travel to the Pamirs. Officially, no letter of invitation is necessary anymore.

Tajik authorities are planning to introduce visa-free travel to the country, the new legislation is expected to be approved in the very near future. It would permit visa-free visits by U.S. and European Union citizens, as well as nationals of some countries in Southeast Asia. According to the draft law, visitors from the chosen countries would be able stay in Tajikistan without an entry visa for one month.

Beware: the Tajik visa is date-specific, meaning that entry and exit date are fixed and written on the visa and you cannot enter before the entry date or leave after the expiry date.

If your country does not have a Tajik consulate you can send your passport to a consulate in another country, apply in person in another country or, occasionally, arrange with a travel agent to collect your visa on arrival at Dushanbe airport. Visas will not be issued on arrival to the nationals of countries where there is a consulate, and will not be issued to anyone at the land borders.

The visa application process is relatively straightforward. A letter of invitation (LOI) is generally not now required for the standard 30-day tourist visa. However, if you still would need on any Tajik licensed travel agency can provide you with the one. Visa support from Eurasia.travel costs 50 USD per person.

Please note that the above-mentioned price is paid only for the Visa Support/Letter of Invitation arranged by our company, but not for the consular fees which are paid at the embassy of Tajikistan in a country where you obtain the visa for Tajikistan. The amount of the consular fee may range from 100$ up to 150$ depending on the duration of your stay and the country of your citizenship.

In order for us to provide you with visa support, you should do the following:

1. Fill out a special Tajikistan Visa Support/Letter of Invitation (LOI) Form
2. Send us a good quality colour copy of your passport's photopage
3. Send us copy of a letter from the employer with the company seal confirming your employment and position (If you are retired or housewife no need for letter)

The approval process of Tajik visa can take 10-15 working days depending on citizenship.

Tajikistan tourist visa

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, tourist visas are issued for a duration of 30 days. Some embassies however issue visas for 60 or even 90 days. Single entry or double entry visa can be requested. A double entry visa is the same price as a single entry visa.

Double-check to make sure that you will get a tourist visa, not a private visa from the embassy. In the past, there were reports that some embassies only gave tourist visas with a LOI. This seems no longer to be the case, but make sure. Private visas need to be registered at OVIR, incurring extra costs.

can simply download the visa application form from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (www.mfa.tj) and fill it in. If you require a double- or multiple-entry visa, be sure to tick the correct box. You will need to submit it with a photocopy of your passport, a passport photo and a printout of your airline ticket or other proof of onward journey. The last is a recent requirement. A copy of your planned itinerary is also advisable. Submit all the paperwork along with your passport and the appropriate fee. Processing usually takes one week, though some consulates can last-track the processing for an increased fee.
