Gegharot Waterfall

Gegharot Waterfall

Gegharot may not be Armenia’s tallest waterfall, but it ranks among the most striking. From a height of 17 meters, a torrent of icy water plunges into a rocky gorge, sending up a mist of spray with a deep, echoing roar.

Fed by Lake Kari, which lies higher on the slope, the waterfall is at its strongest in spring and early summer, when meltwater from the peaks of Mount Aragats fills the lake. The turquoise flow cuts sharply against the rust-colored rock and the green banks that frame its descent.

Located just a few kilometers from Amberd Fortress, Gegharot fits easily into any route along the southern slope of Aragats. It’s a natural stop for cooling off, taking in the landscape, and capturing the scenery in a few well-earned photos.
