The most remarkable building in the lower quarters of Ordubad is the buzkhana—an ancient underground ice cellar, essentially a historic refrigeration facility. Although a plaque by the entrance claims it dates back to the 14th century, the current structure is unlikely to be more than 200 years old, and its exterior bears a distinctly modern appearance.
Today, the buzkhana houses a restaurant, offering guests a unique glimpse into its architectural depths. From the foyer, visitors can admire the impressive depth of the underground chamber. The venue occasionally hosts weddings, transforming the cool, stone-lined cellar into a lively celebration space. For those seeking respite from the midday heat, a few tables are set up at ground level, providing a refreshing retreat for solo diners amid the sweltering summer air.
