Ala-Archa National Park offers more than 100 trails that lead to breathtaking mountain peaks and stunning glaciers, making it a paradise for hikers and climbers alike. For those looking to embark on a serious mountaineering adventure, numerous routes lead to the park’s majestic summits. However, for the average traveler, two primary hiking trails are particularly accessible, offering different levels of challenge and duration.
This is an easy and picturesque route that follows a charming path along the rushing Ala-Archa River. Surrounded by majestic mountains, this trail offers the opportunity to take in the invigorating scent of pine trees and enjoy stunning views of the landscape. It’s suitable for all ages, and you can even bring along children or a stroller.
The entire round trip, with plenty of time for photo stops and snacks, typically takes about one to one and a half hours. Along the way, you’ll find benches and a few gazebos where you can take a break and enjoy the scenery. Remember to bring some food with you – there’s something uniquely delightful about having a picnic in the fresh mountain air of Ala-Archa!
For a more adventurous hike, the trek to Ak-Sai Waterfall is a must. If you choose this route, it’s advisable to start early in the day, as the round trip – including the ascent and descent – takes around 5 to 6 hours. The journey is challenging but incredibly rewarding, as the path takes you deeper into the wild beauty of the park.
For those eager to extend the trek, you can continue to the famous Ratsek Hut, situated at an elevation of 3,300 meters. At the starting point of the trail, you’ll find a detailed route map known as the «Ak-Sai Loop,» clearly displaying distances and estimated times to reach various landmarks along the way. Alternatively, the trail is also available on the maps.me app, providing handy guidance.
As you make your way along the trek, you’ll encounter several breathtaking sights, including the «Broken Heart» Gorge at 2,377 meters, the Tepshi Plateau at 2,458 meters, and finally, the majestic Ak-Sai Waterfall at 2,665 meters.
