On October 30, 2000, the Somoni became the official national currency of Tajikistan, replacing the Tajik Rouble. The currency is internationally recognized with the code TJS, and one Somoni is subdivided into 100 Dirams.
In current circulation across Tajikistan, you will find banknotes in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Somoni, along with smaller denominations of 1, 5, 20, and 50 Dirams. Coins are also in use, with values of 1, 5, 10, 20, 25, and 50 Dirams, as well as 1, 3, and 5 Somoni.
The name «Somoni» honors Ismail Somoni, the founder of the first Tajik state. Each banknote proudly features the national emblem and flag of Tajikistan, and the various denominations are distinguished by their unique colors, sizes, and imagery. Most of the banknotes are adorned with portraits of prominent Tajik figures and depictions of significant historical and cultural monuments.
