During the excavation of a hill in Kunya-Urgench, near the Mausoleum of Il-Arslan, archaeologists uncovered the remnants of a minaret that had collapsed roughly a century ago.
In 1900, local inhabitants discovered a lead foundation slab inscribed with a text indicating that the minaret had been built in 1011 by the order of Mamun Shah.
It is likely that the remains of the adjacent mosque also date back to the same period.
