The Abdullazizkhan Madrasah, located opposite the Ulugbek Madrasah, is a significant historical and architectural landmark in Bukhara. Constructed between 1651 and 1652 by Abdullazizkhan, it stands as the last large madrasah built in the city. This madrasah is notable for its traditional composition, featuring a four-ayvan courtyard, but it also includes unique elements such as a divergent fan of hudj groups beyond the side ayvans and cupola buildings along the central axis.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Abdullazizkhan Madrasah is the design and improvement of its living quarters. These lodgings consisted of an entrance hall and a hudjra (a small room or cell), and were equipped with various amenities. The rooms featured free spaces, attic storeys, and wall niches for storing bedclothes and dishes. These accommodations were decorated according to the tastes of the inhabitants, who rented these apartments during their studies.
