The Bolo-Khauz Complex is a significant historical and architectural monument located on Registan Square in Bukhara. It is the only preserved structure on the square and is situated opposite the Ark, the Emir’s fortress. The complex comprises three main components: a reservoir, a Friday mosque, and a minaret.
The oldest part of the complex is the pond, known as Bolo-Khauz, which translates to «Children’s Reservoir.» This pond is one of the few remaining reservoirs in Bukhara that have survived to the present day. Historically, these reservoirs were essential sources of water for the local population. However, they also became sources of various diseases, leading to the drainage of most of them over time.
