The Allakuli Khan Madrasah, erected in the mid-19th century, stands as a testament to the opulence and cultural vibrancy of Khiva during that era. Renowned as one of the most lavishly decorated monuments in the region, it showcases a distinctive blend of Khorezmian-style majolica in hues of black, white, and blue. The intricate designs adorn the tambourines, the double arcade of columns, and the imposing three-quarter portal, creating a mesmerizing visual tapestry.
Named after its patron, Allakuli Khan, the madrasah served not only as a center of learning but also housed a significant city library. This library, founded by Allakuli Khan himself, housed a collection of books accessible to all students of the Khiva Madrasah. The khujdras (student cells) on the first floor were not only spaces for study but also repositories of knowledge, reflecting the scholarly and intellectual pursuits fostered within its walls.
