The Muhammad Rahim-khan Madrasah in Khiva stands as a testament to the educational and architectural advancements of the Kungrat dynasty. Muhammad Rahim-khan, one of the most educated rulers of this dynasty since 1770, implemented numerous reforms in various sectors, with a significant focus on education. His efforts led to the establishment of the first ‘new type’ schools in Khiva, where both religious and secular subjects were taught. The construction of the Muhammad Rahim-khan Madrasah, one of the largest in Central Asia, marked the pinnacle of his rule. This institution offered a curriculum that included not only religious studies and the Koran but also secular subjects such as mathematics, astronomy, and geography. Students at the madrasah engaged in various intellectual activities, including composing poems and participating in debates.
