Imam al-Bukhari, a luminary in Islamic theology, dedicated his life to the compilation and authentication of hadiths—narratives based on the life events and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. His monumental work involved sifting through approximately 600,000 hadiths, from which he meticulously selected around 7,400 as impeccable, forming the esteemed collection known as «As-Sahih.» This compilation is revered as the second most significant text in Sunni Islam, following the Quran.
Born in the year 810 in Bukhara, Imam al-Bukhari’s journey ended in Samarkand, where he was laid to rest in the village of Hartang, some 30 kilometers away. His resting place, the Mausoleum of Imam al-Bukhari, stands in grandeur, forming part of a sprawling complex that includes additional mausoleums, a mosque, accommodations for tourists and pilgrims, as well as shops offering souvenirs and religious texts.
