Aysel Art Studio

The Aysel Art Gallery and Art Studio stands as one of the most prominent and expansive galleries in Samarkand, showcasing the artistic prowess of the region. Since its establishment in 1992, it has been a hub for Samarkand artists who are members of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.

Initially, the gallery was a modest establishment known as «Alphia.» From its inception, Alphia aimed to promote the rich arts and crafts heritage of Uzbekistan. A brief glance at the gallery’s collection reveals the immense diversity and cultural significance of the artworks on display.

The gallery features some of the finest works by Samarkand craftsmen, who continue the artistic traditions passed down through generations. The collection includes paintings and sculptures by contemporary artists who have gained recognition both within Uzbekistan and internationally. Additionally, the gallery showcases exceptional works by Uzbek photographers, which have been featured in exhibitions in Tashkent, Moscow, Paris, and other cities since the gallery’s early days.

A unique aspect of the Aysel studio is its focus on national silk fabrics. The studio has experimented with various treatment methods, combining modern technologies with traditional techniques to create stunning textile art. This creative approach has led to the formation of a collective of talented fashion designers and textile artists in Samarkand, who bring their individual visions to life in collections of ethnic clothing.

The fashion collections produced by Aysel’s designers have garnered significant attention and are in high demand both in Uzbekistan and abroad. This success inspired the creation of the Fashion Theater, the first and only one of its kind in Samarkand. The Fashion Theater showcases the latest collections by Samarkand designers to both locals and tourists. The designs feature traditional intricate embroidery, printed patterns, decorative prints, and even fragments of ancient fabrics. At the same time, the designers incorporate global fashion trends, ensuring that the collections are both original and contemporary.

In recent years, the ethnic style has gained widespread popularity. What was once a niche interest has become a must-have in the wardrobes of fashion enthusiasts. Dresses in the Uzbek style are now a highlight at public events and fashionable parties. The unique Uzbek fabrics have also inspired renowned fashion designers in Europe and America to create new and innovative designs.

The Aysel Art Gallery and Art Studio continues to promote and preserve the traditional arts and crafts of Uzbekistan while embracing modern techniques. The gallery and studio serve as a vibrant cultural center, celebrating the creativity and talent of Samarkand’s artists and designers.
