Tashkent International Airport
Tashkent International Airport

As the primary gateway to Uzbekistan, Tashkent International Airport (TIA) stands as a modern portal that bridges the ancient Silk Road with the contemporary world. For travelers considering a trip to Tashkent, the airport serves as their first introduction to the country’s rich heritage and warm hospitality.

TIA, also known as Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport, is the largest airport in Central Asia and has undergone significant renovations to enhance the travel experience. The airport terminals are adorned with motifs that reflect Uzbek culture, offering a visual feast for the eyes and a preview of the country’s artistic legacy.

The airport is divided into several terminals, with clear signage in Uzbek, Russian, and English. Upon arrival, travelers will find a range of services designed to facilitate a smooth transition into the country:

  • Currency Exchange: Convert your currency to Uzbek som at one of the many exchange booths.
  • Tourist Information: Visit the tourist information desk for maps and advice on getting around.
  • Transport Services: Arrange for a taxi or a shuttle to your accommodation. The airport is well-connected to the city center, making transfers hassle-free.

TIA offers a variety of amenities to ensure a comfortable wait for your flight or upon arrival:

  • Duty-Free Shopping: Browse through a selection of local and international goods.
  • Dining Options: Sample Uzbek cuisine or enjoy familiar international dishes at the airport’s restaurants and cafes.
  • Lounge Access: Relax in one of the lounges, which provide additional comfort and services for a fee.

Arrivals and departures can be tracked on the website of the flagship carrier, the national company Uzbekistan Airways. Please note that the display board shows schedules for two terminals (2 — international flights, 3 — domestic flights).

The start time for check-in depends on the type of aircraft. As a rule, check-in for domestic flights begins 2 hours before departure and 3 hours for international flights. The procedure ends 40 minutes before the departure of the flight on international lines.

Tashkent’s main air hub has two terminals. Note that they are located 7 kilometers apart from each other.

Tashkent-2 Terminal is intended for international flights. It is equipped with telescopic gangways and the most modern equipment. For passengers, there is all the necessary infrastructure: comfortable waiting lounges with cafes and shops, including Duty-Free, sanitary and diaper-changing rooms, currency exchange points, international communication services, information and medical services, and much more. There are enhanced comfort lounges for business class. There is a free Wi-Fi zone on the premises, however, users complain about the instability of the connection.

Tashkent-3 Terminal serves domestic air traffic. It is much smaller than the international terminal, with a capacity of 400 people per hour. Here, too, all the usual services operate, except for duty-free shops and Tax-Free points.

Shuttle buses and taxis run between the terminals, and a bus shuttle is provided for organized groups (by prior request).
