Nestled within the Ugam-Chatkal National Nature Park, the Gulkamsky Gorges (or canyon) are a breathtaking natural wonder located near the popular retreat of Chimgan ski resort, just 85 kilometers from Tashkent. This proximity allows visitors to trade the hustle and bustle of the metropolis for the tranquil charm of high-altitude landscapes in a mere hour and a half.
The canyon was sculpted by the gentle flow of the Gulkam River, which has carved its path through the mountainous terrain, ultimately leading to the Charvak Reservoir. Stretching for several kilometers, the canyon alternates between narrow passages, narrowing to a mere 5-6 meters within rocky confines, and expansive valleys that welcome the tributaries cascading down from the surrounding slopes. Of particular interest is the canyon’s narrowest section, where a stunning waterfall cascades down a 10-meter drop. Adventurers can navigate around the waterfall to the left (it is advisable to use rope safety when doing so). Beyond this point, a series of additional ledges await exploration.
