Sangardak Waterfall, located in the Surkhandarya Region, is one of Uzbekistan’s most impressive waterfalls, drawing visitors from Termez, Boysun, and beyond who travel long distances just to witness its grandeur.
The name «Sangardak» is derived from Tajik, although its exact translation is not clear. The word «sang» means “rock,” and «ardak» could be interpreted as “honor.” The waterfall cascades from a height of 1,200 meters above sea level, with the rocks above adding an additional 300 to 400 meters to the drop. Sangardak is composed of two major waterfalls and several smaller ones that often dry up in the autumn months. The main cascades are fed by numerous small streams that converge and plunge over a steep cliff, where they fan out into a multitude of fine streams that splash onto the moss-covered rocks below.
Located 140 kilometers from Boysun and 190 kilometers from Termez, Sangardak Waterfall is accessed via the Hissar Mountains. The final stretch of road winds through a scenic gorge created by the Sangardakdarya River. Upon reaching the waterfall, visitors find a network of stairs, bridges, and viewing platforms offering various perspectives of the falls. During the spring and summer, the flow of water is particularly vigorous, and the air is filled with moisture, providing a refreshing break even on the hottest days. Be prepared to get wet if you spend a lot of time near the falls!
