Each year, the enchanting city of Gabala, located in the heart of Azerbaijan, proudly hosts the Gabala International Festival of Jazz, Mugam, and Classical Music. This prestigious event brings together an impressive lineup of acclaimed artists and musical ensembles from around the world, solidifying Gabala’s reputation as the musical capital of Azerbaijan. The festival provides a remarkable opportunity for music lovers and professional musicians alike to immerse themselves in a vibrant tapestry of global sounds.

Participants come from a wide array of countries, including Turkey, Russia, Israel, Italy, the United States, Lithuania, Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and, of course, Azerbaijan itself. The Gabala Music Festival beautifully embodies a rich synthesis of cultures, traditions, and artistic expressions, showcasing the diverse musical heritage of its participants.

As you enter the festival grounds, you are greeted by a captivating wonderland of sound and light, where breathtaking music and dynamic performances intertwine. This melting pot of the world’s national dances and musical styles features Azerbaijani musicians dressed in traditional attire, performing mughams—a beloved genre of Azerbaijani music and poetry. In addition to philharmonic and symphonic orchestra concerts, attendees can enjoy the infectious rhythms of jazz, the fiery passion of flamenco, and the nuanced subtleties of contemporary chamber music.

Since its inception in 2009, the Gabala Music Festival has hosted a remarkable array of distinguished artists, including renowned pianist Denis Matsuev, cellist and conductor Dmitry Yablonsky, opera singer Vyacheslav Voynarovsky, violist Yuri Bashmet, violinist Chloe Henslip, and pianist Idil Biret, among many others. In 2017, the festival had the honor of featuring the Uzeyir Hajibeyli Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra, the country’s premier musical ensemble.

Typically held during the warm summer months, this multi-day festival graces Gabala’s stages from late July to early August, offering a unique blend of sound and culture that captivates all who attend. Join us in celebrating the magic of music at the Gabala International Music Festival!
