Hello! A summer flight with a 2–3 day stopover in Tbilisi is being planned. What would you recommend — looking for accommodation in the center with steep staircases (we’ll have heavy suitcases), or in newer neighborhoods in buildings with an elevator not far from the metro? The plan is to get acquainted with the city and see the main sights. Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Near Marjanishvili metro, in a building with an elevator.
Thank you very much. Asking because, for example, in Saint Petersburg they usually advise booking not in the center (more expensive), but in other districts and getting to the attractions by metro — it’s convenient. How convenient is that in Tbilisi?
It depends on personal preference. I always prefer staying in the center so I don’t waste time and energy traveling back and forth. Especially during peak hours.
Does “center” mean the Old Town? Sorry, just started researching. And how steep are the ascents and descents there?
Marjanishvili is a wonderful location. We stayed there twice.

It varies 🙂 Sometimes you get surprises along the way in the form of high staircases…))
If you don’t like walking uphill, then it’s better to stay closer to the center, the Old Town. But even there, elevations can differ.
Thank you! And which area should be specified in the search? Old Town? So, not necessarily booking right in the Old Town, but somewhere close to it?Posted by: @grigoryMarjanishvili is a wonderful location.

Marjanishvili has already been recommended to you — I’ll second that. It’s convenient to walk everywhere from there. We stayed on Ivane Javakhishvili Street, and everything was very accessible. Considering that I was with my small son and a stroller. The Old Town is also worth considering. From the Kura River up to Shota Rustaveli Avenue. And a bit towards Mtatsminda. And around Victory Square. If I’m mistaken about anything, feel free to correct me 🙂
Good afternoon everyone! 🙂 We’re planning a 5-day trip to Tbilisi in mid-October.
We’ll be traveling with my husband, for a birthday celebration.
Please advise which area would be better to choose for staying during these 5 days.
We’ve gotten lost in the search — some people write that the Old Town is best, others recommend districts farther away.
For context — we’re very active and don’t mind walking a lot, but at the same time we’d like it to be reasonable.
Please help us choose the right base point 🙏
We chose a place closer to Marjanishvili metro.
🤌😁
Not Avlabari… forgive me 🙈
Mtatsminda 🤌
Sololaki
Rustaveli.
Why not Avlabari?
In my opinion… very old housing stock…
Dusty… hardly any sound insulation 🙈
Although, of course, maybe there’s a good hotel or apartment 🤌
If you want views, and cobblestones don’t bother you, then Mtatsminda 🤩
Oh, well that’s if it’s an apartment. We chose a hotel — judging by the photos it’s a new building and the reviews are good.
