Hi, can you please advise me, is it better to take a general city sightseeing tour or visit each significant place separately?

I would recommend a sightseeing tour, because in most places you go inside with a guide, and many of the museums are very small. There are places the size of just one room.

In Bukhara, definitely a walking sightseeing tour with a guide. It took us about 5–6 hours, but the pace was adjusted to us, unhurried. We went everywhere and he told us about everything in detail. We found the guide at Lyabi-Hauz. The knowledge was extensive, and not only about Bukhara. Soviet education still rules. As for Samarkand, we hired guides on the spot from locals near the ticket offices. It was good, and again, no one rushed us, no running around.
