Good afternoon! We want to go to Tashkent on April 20th. It’s our first time. Can someone tell me how long it takes to get from Shymkent to the border and how much a taxi costs?

Hello! It’s about 8-10 thousand tenge for a taxi. We recently traveled from Tashkent to Shymkent, and it costed us 10 thousand to get from the border in a comfortable car. If you take a simpler car, you can definitely negotiate for a lower price.

By the way, keep in mind that the nearest border crossing at Chernyaevka is closed now, you need to cross at alternative place.

Yes, as already mentioned, the price is between 8 to 12 thousand tenge, which is just right. Once you cross the border, there will be taxi drivers waiting (but I recommend calling a Yandex taxi after the Kazakhstan border or at least checking the prices they offer) and only agree to a slightly higher fare.

Good afternoon!

Shymkent-Kaplanbek takes about 1 hour and 30-40 minutes.

At the Komeshbulak (Kolos) bus station:
a seat in a shared taxi costs 2500-4500 tenge, and the price for a private taxi has already been mentioned above.
If you can make your way through the crowd of taxi drivers, there are also minibuses and marshrutkas deeper under the roof. I recently left for 1200 tenge.

The road from Kaplanbek to Shymkent:
It’s the same deal: you exit on the Kazakh side and walk along the street full of people until you reach the roundabout.

Either the taxi drivers will persuade you, or you can turn left where there are marshrutkas, minibuses, and intercity buses during the day.

From the Uzbek border to Tashkent:

Comfort option - just call a Yandex taxi from where the traffic police are stationed, about 300 meters from the checkpoint 😊 starting at 40,000 sums depending on your final destination in Tashkent.

Budget option - a Damas to Chorsu market costs 10,000 sums per person; on the way back, I paid 5,000 sums 😁
