Could you please clarify. I’m a tourist from Russia, car with Russian plates, driver’s license, international passport. I need to enter from the Jartepa border crossing side and travel along the route DushanbeKhorogMurghabOsh. I have 6 days for everything. I know about the GBAO permit. What else do I need to arrange in terms of documents for such a trip through Tajikistan/GBAO? Temporary import of the car at the UZ/TJ border?

We’re also fully from Russia, I can’t say exactly about your route, but in Uzbekistan if you have tinted windows you pay, in Tajikistan import is $25 — we pay at the border (but be ready they may ask more, like 500–600 somoni etc., then ask for a receipt for that amount, that’s what people advised above). Also, if you have tint, you can drive 10 days without paying, on the 10th day there’s a fine, you need to оформлять a permit at the traffic police (but I can’t tell you if you need it for 6 days, we stayed for a month and needed it). About insurance everyone says it’s not necessary (but we did it at the border for a month — 120 somoni, traffic is quite difficult). Registration is also not needed for up to 10 working days. That’s all I can tell.

Yes, temporary import of the car — $25 or in somoni.
Previously, you also had to get a permit to enter Kyrgyzstan from the Murghab side through the tourism department, but now the borders are open (since last summer), and no separate permit is required anymore. Do not confuse, permit to enter GBAO is still needed.

Make about 8 copies of your GBAO permit. Copy of the passport main page and the permit on one sheet. They will ask for them often at checkpoints.
