The National Park of Machakhela begins right here, with this remarkable monument. It stands as a proud tribute to the legendary Machakheli flintlock rifle—a weapon once renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and durability. Esteemed for its impressive range, the rifle was especially prized for its ability to withstand powerful charges without the barrel ever bursting, no matter how heavily it was loaded.
Etched into the monument, one can also spot a traditional Georgian dagger and a flag bearing the name of the Machakhela Gorge in the Georgian language. These elements not only honor the weapon itself but also celebrate the long-standing tradition of blacksmithing in the region. For centuries, local men were skilled artisans, working iron and steel with such expertise that even cradles were crafted from metal.
Easily visible from the main highway, the monument stands proudly at the confluence of two rivers—the Chorokhi and the Machakhela.
