If you ever feel like taking a break from Batumi’s beaches and venturing into its lush surroundings, you’ll be rewarded with places of rare beauty. One such treasure is Mirveti Waterfall, located on a tributary of the Chorokhi River, just 20 kilometers from Batumi.
Most organized tours head straight for the famous Makhuntseti Waterfall and the nearby Queen Tamar’s Arch Bridge. Mirveti, though closer to Batumi, remains delightfully off the main tourist path. And that’s its charm — it’s quieter, greener, and steeped in the same ancient atmosphere. Here you’ll find an enchanted forest, an ancient stone bridge, and even the ruins of the medieval fortress Gvara, hidden among the trees — a story for another day.
Reaching Mirveti is part of the adventure. Unlike Makhuntseti, no public minibuses go there — only a car can make the trip (or a 4-kilometer walk, if you’re up for it). Drive toward Adjaristskali village, cross the bridge, and follow the signs to the waterfall. The village of Mirveti lies on the opposite side of the Chorokhi River, and to get there, you’ll need to cross a long suspension bridge — a thrilling experience, especially if you’re driving a small car! Once across, a forest trail leads you through a serene green world alive with birdsong and the sound of rushing water.
Just 400 meters from the waterfall, there’s a peaceful picnic area and a medieval arched stone bridge dating back to the 12th–13th centuries — a perfect spot to pause and admire the harmony of nature and history. After exploring Mirveti, you can easily continue your journey deeper into Machakhela Gorge or onward to Makhuntseti, making it an ideal day trip from Batumi.

Mirveti Waterfall may not be as well-known as its famous neighbor, but that’s what makes it so magical — a quiet corner of Adjara where emerald forests, ancient bridges, and mountain waters come together to remind you that Georgia’s beauty often hides just beyond the beaten path.
