Tucked away in the highlands of Racha, just 40 kilometers from Ambrolauri, the mountain village of Lailashi is famed for a mysterious and breathtaking attraction — an unusual pool with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Known as the Okronishi Pool or the Secret Pool of Lailashi (labeled as “Okronishi Decorative Fountain” or “Secret Pool Lailashi” on Google Maps), this place has already graced countless Instagram feeds and is often called the most picturesque spot in all of Racha.
In spring, when the pool is dry, visitors can stroll across its tiled surface, soaking in the sweeping vistas. In summer, the basin fills with frigid waters from nearby mountain springs, making it a refreshing place to take a dip while gazing out at the scenic beauty. Water overflows from the pool’s rim into a narrow trough, creating the mesmerizing illusion of an endless edge — a natural infinity pool perched in the Georgian mountains. It’s no exaggeration to say this is one of the most photogenic destinations in all of Georgia.
Today, Lailashi is a quiet, secluded village that feels forgotten by time, far removed from the asphalt highways of modern life. To reach it, you must climb a winding four-kilometer dirt road — doable with a crossover vehicle, but undeniably a bit tiring. The village sits on the edge of a small plateau at an altitude of 850 meters, and from here you can enjoy stunning views over the Landjanuri River Valley, with occasional glimpses of a distant reservoir.
It seems that guides working with Israeli tour groups were the first to recognize the village’s hidden charm. They began bringing visitors to see the rare and beautiful Lailashi Synagogue. Not far from there, a spring was discovered, and during Soviet times, a simple pool was constructed beside it. In the Instagram age, this modest Soviet relic has been transformed into a must-visit photo spot. Add in the refreshing possibility of a summer swim, and it’s no wonder the village has since grown in popularity.
To reach Lailashi from Ambrolauri, you’ll need to navigate a steep, unpaved mountain road. A high-clearance vehicle — preferably one with four-wheel drive — is strongly recommended. From Tbilisi, the road leads through Sachkhere and Oni, offering a scenic but adventurous journey into the mountains.
