The “Adam and Eve” (Adam-Ata and Zher-Ana) rock, a split boulder in the Kazygurt mountain range, stands as one of the most enigmatic landmarks in southern Kazakhstan. Rising to a height of 4 meters and stretching about 6 meters in length, the rock is cleft in two, symbolizing man and woman, father and mother. The crevice, which measures approximately 15 meters in length, narrows to a width of just 25–30 centimeters at its tightest points.
According to legend, Adam and Eve hurled a massive stone toward the sacred mountain, creating the fissure at its peak. Only those who are pure in heart and sincere in faith are said to be able to pass through this narrow gap; for others, the path remains closed. Tradition holds that it is the holy spirits who aid people in undertaking this challenging “Adam and Eve” trial, imbuing the place with a profound spiritual energy.
