Your journey begins early in the morning with a transfer to the train station in Almaty, where you will board a train for the long, scenic ride to Baikonur. This overnight journey offers you the chance to relax and unwind as you travel toward one of the most iconic space centers in the world.
Upon your arrival in Baikonur, you will check into your hotel and enjoy a city tour that introduces you to the highlights of this unique space town. The tour includes visits to Gagarin’s Arbor, the memorial dedicated to fallen cosmonauts, as well as several historic squares and monuments that commemorate the city’s rich space exploration history. A stop at the Cosmodrome History Museum offers a fascinating look at the early years of space exploration, showcasing real-life artifacts, including rockets, spacecraft, and photographs of iconic space missions. After a full day of exploration, enjoy a traditional dinner, followed by some free time to relax and reflect on the wonders you’ve experienced so far.
Today’s itinerary focuses on the heart of space exploration: the Baikonur Cosmodrome itself. After breakfast, you will head out for a comprehensive tour of the cosmodrome’s most significant areas, including “Ground No. 2,” the museum that tells the story of Baikonur’s pivotal role in the Soviet and global space programs. You will also visit the historic cottages where the legendary cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin and Sergei Korolev stayed during their training in Baikonur. Further exploration includes seeing the massive launch complex and trial platforms, where space pioneers launched missions into orbit. One of the tour’s most exciting stops is the “Buran” launch complex, where the famous Soviet space shuttle is displayed. You will have a chance to step inside and even try your hand at controlling the shuttle in a mock-up. After this thrilling experience, the tour will return to the city for dinner and an evening at leisure.
Following breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer back to the Baikonur train station for your return journey to Almaty. On the way back, take some time to reflect on the incredible sights and experiences of the past few days. Overnight, you will be on the train as you make your way back to Almaty.
