A new spiritual center for Islam has emerged in Taraz with the addition of the Kenes-Khan Qaji Mosque. Opened in 2015, this unique mosque features a striking facade crafted in the shape of an open Quran, symbolizing the wisdom and guidance of the holy text.
Situated in the heart of the city, near the ancient Karakhan Mausoleum, the mosque integrates seamlessly into the architectural ensemble of Karakhan Alley, developed as part of the celebration of the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate. Designed by architects to resemble an open book, the facade offers a stunning visual tribute to the Quran. Both the interior and exterior of the mosque are adorned in soft, light tones, giving the space a serene atmosphere, while walls and arches are graced with Arabic calligraphy, enhancing the mosque’s sacred ambiance.
Beyond its main prayer hall, the mosque includes classrooms where lessons on Islamic teachings are held, making it a hub for both worship and education.
