In the heart of Kyrgyzstan, Jeti Oguz is renowned for its striking red rock formations that resemble seven bulls reclining on the earth. The origin of these unique rocks is steeped in an ancient Kyrgyz legend.
Long ago, there were two rival khans. One of these khans had a wife of extraordinary beauty. Consumed by his infatuation, the second khan abducted her, sparking a fierce and bloody conflict between the two leaders. Seeking counsel, the second khan approached a wise man who was initially reluctant to get involved. Eventually, the wise man advised him to kill his wife to prevent the first khan from ever reclaiming her.
To enact this grim plan, the second khan organized a grand festival, during which seven bulls were sacrificed. At the culmination of the event, he ordered the death of the woman. As her blood flowed, it mingled with the blood of the seven bulls, sweeping them away and bringing a tragic end to the khan and his entourage.
In the aftermath, the seven bulls, now turned to stone, formed the red rock formation known today as Jeti Oguz, which translates to «Seven Bulls» in Kyrgyz.
