Besh-Tash Lake is one of the most stunning lakes in northern Kyrgyzstan, located in the Talas region. It stands as the largest lake within the Besh-Tash Nature Reserve, surrounded by the breathtaking Besh-Tash gorge, which is renowned for its lush alpine meadows and awe-inspiring scenery.
The lake sits at an elevation of 3,000 meters above sea level and reaches a depth of 28 meters, making it a serene high-altitude retreat. Its waters boast an enchanting turquoise hue that offers a striking contrast against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks and verdant grasslands. Visiting the lake in April or May offers a special treat, as you might witness the lake’s thawing process when the ice begins to break up, revealing the sparkling waters beneath.
Just a bit further down from Besh-Tash Lake lies a smaller, unnamed lake, adding another layer of charm to this picturesque area.
