Step into the heart of Kazakhstan’s natural beauty on a one-day tour to the Korgalzhyn Natural Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its wildlife and pristine landscapes. Just a two-hour drive southwest from Astana, Korgalzhyn offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in nature and witness rare species in their natural habitats.
Korgalzhyn is home to over 300 species of wildlife, including the Siberian white crane, Dalmatian pelican, and Pallas’s fish eagle. One of the most magical experiences is seeing the vibrant pink flamingos that call this reserve home from April to October. The best time to visit is late July to August when the birds are nesting, but the reserve also offers stunning tulip blooms in May, with the rare Tulipa schrenkii – Schrenck’s tulip – creating a colorful spectacle.
On this tour, you’ll visit the “Birds Paradise” center, where you’ll explore the Steppe Hall, Winter Garden, and the History and Ethnography Hall. You’ll also have the chance to watch a captivating film about the mysteries of Kazakhstan’s protected lands. Afterward, hop into Soviet-era off-road vehicles and embark on eco-routes through the reserve, spotting birds and animals from a distance using binoculars provided by your guide.
While the terrains are rugged, the rewards are unforgettable. The picturesque landscapes, rich biodiversity, and the thrill of spotting flamingos, antelopes, and other wildlife make this tour a must-do for nature enthusiasts and wildlife photographers alike. Don’t forget your sunglasses, waterproof shoes, and a raincoat to stay comfortable during the adventure.
Book your one-day tour to Korgalzhyn today and get ready for a deep connection with Kazakhstan’s untouched natural beauty.
N.B. If adverse weather conditions occur, guides reserve the right to adjust the route in order to ensure the safety of tourists, as in a heavy rain a vehicle can get stuck in the mud.
Moreover, there is a chance not to see birds or animals in a bad weather, as they hide in/around lakes of the reserve.
You will be observing the birds and animals in a distance with binoculars provided by the guide.
Flamingos can be seen from end April till October, gophers and saiga antelopes from May till July;
In a day, it’s possible to enjoy only the smallest part of the natural richness of Kazakhstan, but it will definitely be enough to leave you deeply impressed.
We recommend traveling to Korgalzhyn in the end of July – August, as it is nesting time for birds and chances to see them are higher. In the beginning of May it is tulips season, where you can see a protected variety of it — Tulipa schrenkii or Tulipa suaveolens, Schrenck’s tulip.
