Itinerary

Day 1Bishkek to Toktogul (350 km, 100% asphalt)

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed by our guide and driven to Bishkek. After an early check-in at a comfortable 3-star hotel, you can relax and prepare for the journey ahead. Later, the 4×4 self-driving adventure begins, taking you through Kyrgyzstan’s southern region towards Toktogul Reservoir. This drive promises awe-inspiring views of majestic mountains and picturesque gorges. En route, you will cross the renowned Too Ashuu Pass, situated over 3,000 meters above sea level. Widely considered one of the most stunning roads in Kyrgyzstan, this route offers numerous photo opportunities to capture the breathtaking panoramas. Your day concludes with an overnight stay in a cozy guesthouse.

Day 2Toktogul to Sary Chelek and Arslanbob (470 km, 90% asphalt, 10% dirt road)

An early start at 8 a.m. sets the tone for a day of exploration. From Toktogul, you will drive through scenic mountain landscapes to the serene Sary Chelek Lake. Nestled at 1,873 meters above sea level within a national reserve at the base of the Chatkal mountain range, this pristine lake was formed by a powerful earthquake. Its crystal-clear waters reveal colorful stones and darting fish beneath the surface. Surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks, the reserve offers a feast for the senses. Continuing the journey, you’ll arrive in Arslanbob by evening. Home to the world’s largest walnut forest, this area produces 1,500 tons of walnuts annually. Tonight’s accommodation will be in a welcoming homestay.

Day 3Arslanbob to Kazarman (270 km, 40% asphalt, 60% dirt road)

Your journey continues to the remote village of Kazarman, traversing some of Kyrgyzstan’s most rugged and mountainous terrain. This route winds through dramatic gorges and presents striking views of the surrounding peaks. Along the way, you may encounter nomads who still reside in this region, offering a glimpse into Kyrgyzstan’s traditional way of life. Dinner and an overnight stay in a homestay provide an authentic experience in this remote part of the country.

Day 4:Kazarman to Son Kul Lake (180 km, 10% asphalt, 90% dirt road)

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a journey to the stunning alpine Son Kul Lake, Kyrgyzstan’s second-largest lake, situated at 3,013 meters above sea level. This high-altitude destination is surrounded by rolling hills and mountains, attracting herders who bring their livestock here during the summer months. Upon arrival, immerse yourself in the unspoiled beauty of the area. Dinner and accommodation are in traditional yurts—portable dwellings crafted from wood and felt—providing a glimpse into the nomadic lifestyle.

Day 5:Exploring Son Kul Lake (145 km, 100% dirt road)

Spend the day discovering the pristine surroundings of Son Kul Lake. Drive around the lake to visit local nomads and learn about their customs and culture. Kyrgyz hospitality is legendary, and you’ll be welcomed into yurts to enjoy tea and conversation. Later, descend a winding mountain road to view a spectacular waterfall. Dinner will feature traditional cuisine, and you’ll spend another night in yurts, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere under the stars.

Day 6:Son Kul Lake to Tash Rabat (255 km, 20% asphalt, 80% dirt road)

This leg of the journey takes you to the Tash Rabat Caravanserai, an ancient stone structure dating back to the 14th century, located at 3,200 meters above sea level in the Tian Shan Mountains. The caravanserai boasts 31 stone chambers, including underground cells once used as prisons. On the way, you’ll traverse the breathtaking Moldo Ashu Pass, offering views of rugged peaks and winding mountain roads. Dinner and overnight accommodations are in yurts near the historic Tash Rabat site.

Day 7:Tash Rabat to Naryn (115 km, 100% asphalt)

Enjoy a leisurely morning exploring the area around Tash Rabat or opt for a horse-riding excursion to experience the nomadic way of life. After lunch, drive to Naryn, a town nestled within a mountain gorge. The journey features dramatic landscapes, from sweeping mountain passes to picturesque valleys. Overnight accommodations are in a comfortable guesthouse.

Day 8:Naryn to Tosor Pass and Tamga (365 km, 10% asphalt, 90% dirt road)

Today’s adventure takes you over the Tosor Pass, a challenging yet rewarding drive at an altitude of 3,950 meters. The landscape changes rapidly, offering spectacular views of snow-capped peaks and serene valleys. Around midday, enjoy a picnic lunch amidst nature. The day concludes at Issyk Kul Lake, known as the “Pearl of Central Asia.” This alpine lake, encircled by mountains, is the second-largest of its kind worldwide. Dinner and an overnight stay are in a guesthouse near the lake.

Day 9:Tamga to Karakol (120 km, 80% asphalt, 20% dirt road)

Travel to the stunning Jeti Oguz Gorge, renowned for its striking red rock formations called the Seven Bulls and the iconic Broken Heart Mountain. The journey continues to Karakol, where you’ll visit the unique Dungan Mosque, constructed in Chinese architectural style without the use of nails, and a historic wooden Orthodox Church. Dinner and overnight accommodations are at a local guesthouse.

Day 10:Karakol to Cholpon Ata (190 km, 70% asphalt, 30% dirt road)

This day features a scenic drive along the northern shore of Issyk Kul Lake. Along the way, you’ll explore the picturesque Semenovskoye and Grigorievskoye Gorges, which are connected at their ends, allowing you to enter one and exit through the other. These gorges are dotted with yurts, providing opportunities to rest and enjoy the natural beauty. A picnic lunch adds to the day’s charm. Dinner and overnight accommodations are in a hotel in Cholpon Ata.

Day 11Cholpon Ata to Bishkek (270 km, 100% asphalt)

Your journey back to Bishkek includes a visit to ancient petroglyphs dating back to 800 B.C. and the historic Burana Tower, an 11th-century minaret that served as a landmark for Silk Road travelers. Adjacent to the tower, you’ll find an open-air museum of Balbals (stone warriors). Upon reaching Bishkek, enjoy a guided city tour and explore the bustling Asian bazaar. A farewell dinner will be served at a national restaurant, followed by an overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 12:Bishkek to Airport

On your final day, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure, concluding an unforgettable journey through Kyrgyzstan.
