Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Yerevan – Welcome City Tour and Cultural Discovery

Upon arrival at Yerevan International Airport, meet your driver who will transfer you comfortably to your hotel. After check-in (available from noon), enjoy a short rest before beginning your Armenian adventure in one of the world’s most ancient continuously inhabited cities. Often referred to as the “Pink City” due to the distinct rosy hue of its volcanic tuff stone buildings, Yerevan offers a harmonious blend of historical richness and modern vibrancy.

Start your discovery with a visit to the city’s iconic Cascade Monument, a massive terraced staircase adorned with modern art installations. Comprising 572 steps and rising over 500 meters in length and 50 meters in width, it connects the downtown with the Monument district and offers one of the best panoramic views of the city, including Mount Ararat, Swan Lake, the Opera House, and Republic Square. Stroll down Abovyan Avenue, one of the oldest and most elegant streets in Yerevan.

If your visit falls on a weekend, you’ll also explore Vernissage, Yerevan’s renowned open-air art and souvenir market, where you can find traditional crafts, paintings, jewelry, and Soviet memorabilia. Continue the tour with a meaningful stop at Tsitsernakaberd, the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex, a solemn site commemorating the victims of the 1915 tragedy.

Round off the day with a visit to the Megeryan Carpet Factory, where you’ll get an insider’s view of the intricate process of weaving Armenian carpets—an age-old tradition. Admire masterpieces from various Armenian regions and uncover the symbolic meanings hidden in their detailed patterns.

In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant accompanied by a lively traditional Armenian folklore show, offering an immersive introduction to the nation’s spirit and hospitality. Overnight stay in Yerevan.

Day 2Yerevan – Garni – Geghard – Etchmiadzin – Yerevan

After breakfast, set out for a full-day excursion to explore Armenia’s spiritual and architectural legacy. Your first stop is the village of Garni, famous for housing the only surviving pagan temple in Armenia. This 1st-century Greco-Roman structure, dedicated to the sun god Mihr, miraculously endured the Christianization of Armenia in the 4th century and remains a rare example of classical Hellenistic architecture in the region.

Descend into Garni Gorge to witness the Symphony of Stones, a fascinating natural rock formation resembling organ pipes—a geological wonder created by cooling lava flows.

Next, continue to the remarkable Geghard Monastery, partially carved into the adjacent mountain. The name “Geghard” means “spear,” referring to the biblical spear that allegedly wounded Christ and was once kept here. Founded in the 4th century around a sacred spring, the site is a masterpiece of medieval Armenian architecture, framed dramatically by surrounding cliffs.

In the afternoon, proceed to Etchmiadzin, the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church and seat of the Catholicos of All Armenians. Visit the Etchmiadzin Cathedral*, considered the first Christian cathedral in the world, built in the early 4th century shortly after Armenia adopted Christianity as a state religion. Explore its accompanying museum, which houses some of the most treasured Christian relics. (*Please note that renovation work may affect access to certain parts of the complex.)

Return to Yerevan in the evening. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3:Yerevan – Khor Virap – Areni – Noravank – Yerevan

After breakfast, begin your journey toward the Ararat Plain, where the majestic Khor Virap Monastery rises with a stunning backdrop of Mount Ararat. This sacred site holds great significance in Armenian history—it was here that St. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned in a deep dungeon (or “virap”) for 13 years by King Tiridates III. His eventual release led to the conversion of the king and the establishment of Christianity as Armenia’s official religion in 301 AD, making it the first nation to do so.

Continue to the Areni Cave Complex, a significant archaeological site where the world’s oldest leather shoe, dating back over 5,500 years, was discovered. This fascinating cave provides insights into early human settlements and their lifestyle.

Stop in the village of Areni, known as the cradle of Armenian wine. Visit a local winery to sample the region’s renowned red wines, crafted from endemic grape varieties and deeply rooted in ancient winemaking traditions.

Your final destination for the day is the enchanting Noravank Monastery, located on a narrow ledge amidst towering red cliffs in the Amaghu Valley. This 13th-century architectural gem is not only a marvel in terms of design, with its two-story Surb Astvatsatsin Church featuring a rare cantilevered staircase, but also in its ability to harmonize so perfectly with the dramatic surrounding landscape.

Return to Yerevan in the evening for your final overnight stay in Armenia.

Day 4:Yerevan – Departure

Enjoy your final morning in Yerevan with some free time at leisure, perhaps for a last walk through the city or some shopping for local crafts and delicacies. After check-out (by noon), your driver will transfer you to Yerevan International Airport for your departure flight. With unforgettable memories, deep cultural impressions, and newfound appreciation for Armenia’s ancient heritage, your journey comes to an end.
