Itinerary

Day 1Mestia – Zhabeshi

Your Svaneti hiking adventure begins at 09:00 AM in Mestia, where you’ll meet your expert guide and driver. After a short introduction, the hike kicks off toward the peaceful village of Zhabeshi, situated at an altitude of 1,680 meters. This trail leads you through picturesque valleys, winding riversides, gentle forested slopes, and open alpine meadows. Expect a moderate hike with an ascent of 763 meters and a descent of 523 meters. As you reach Zhabeshi, you’ll be welcomed by local hospitality at a cozy guesthouse. In the evening, enjoy a hearty Svanetian dinner, known for its rich, earthy flavors.

Day 2Zhabeshi – Adishi

After a traditional breakfast, continue your trek toward the remote and timeless village of Adishi, located at 2,040 meters above sea level. This part of the trail is slightly shorter but takes you higher into the mountains, with a total ascent of 909 meters and a descent of 527 meters. You’ll pass through serene birch forests, colorful meadows in bloom, and paths lined with wild herbs. The untouched beauty and silence of Adishi Valley are surreal. Upon arrival, unwind at a local guesthouse and savor a delicious homemade dinner while learning about Svan traditions and folklore.

Day 3:Adishi – Iprali (via Chkhunderi Pass)

Today is the longest and most dramatic day of the trek. Begin your morning with a nourishing breakfast before setting off toward the village of Iprali. You will hike across the roaring Adishi River—typically crossed on horseback—and ascend to the Chkhunderi Pass at 2,655 meters. From this high vantage point, the panoramic views of the snow-draped Greater Caucasus range are simply jaw-dropping. After descending through scenic valleys and alpine meadows, reach Iprali (1,800 m) by late afternoon. A warm meal and a comfortable bed await you at a local guesthouse.

Day 4:Iprali – Ushguli

The final leg of your trek takes you to the legendary village of Ushguli, standing proudly at 2,200 meters. The 12 km route features gentle yet steady climbs (+677 m) and descents (–436 m) through verdant landscapes and sleepy hamlets. Ushguli, with its ancient watchtowers and dramatic mountain backdrop, is one of Georgia’s most iconic sights. In the evening, enjoy a feast of local specialties and explore the rustic charm of this highland village. Spend the night in a guesthouse steeped in tradition.

Day 5:Ushguli – Shkhara Glacier Hike – Return to Mestia

Your final day begins with a scenic round-trip hike to the foot of the majestic Shkhara Glacier, beneath Georgia’s highest peak, Mount Shkhara (5,193 m). The trail follows the Enguri River, offering panoramic views of glacial valleys and rugged peaks. En route, visit the sacred Lamaria Church, adorned with medieval frescoes. According to local legend, Queen Tamara herself may rest beneath its foundation. This 16 km hike takes around 6–7 hours and is the perfect finale to your mountain adventure. After completing the hike, return by vehicle to Mestia, where your tour concludes.
