On May 24, 2014, Ashgabat unveiled a grand monument titled «My White City Ashgabat,» also known as «Ashgabat: The City of Love,» in a special ceremony held just before the city’s annual celebration. According to official sources, the name «Ashgabat/Ashgabad» is derived from the Persian words «eshq» (love) and «abad» (city), reflecting the city’s romantic designation.

Situated in the heart of the city on Makhtumkuli (Freedom) Avenue, directly across from the main dramatic theater, the monument serves as a central feature of a newly developed park complex. The area previously housed an old grandstand and an aviation ticket office.

The monument, standing at an impressive 25 meters, is crafted from white marble. Its design features olive branches at the top, symbolizing Turkmenistan’s enduring neutrality. The stele is enveloped by a symbolic heart, representing love, with the word «ASGABAT» inscribed in golden letters within the outlines of traditional carpet guls. At the base of the monument is an image of an open book, signifying Ashgabat’s recognition as a city of records, having earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

The monument is surrounded by a multitude of fountains and floral beds, enhancing its aesthetic appeal. Across the street, the Turkmenbashi Dramatic Theater, adorned with a golden profile of Saparmurat Niyazov, stands in proximity.
