Ashgabat offers an array of family-friendly activities that make it a top destination for a family vacation. With a variety of attractions designed to entertain and engage children, Ashgabat stands out as one of the most appealing cities in Turkmenistan for family leisure.

A must-visit with children is the State Puppet Theater of Turkmenistan, the only one of its kind in the country. Established in 2005, this theater hosts daily performances in its two beautifully decorated halls. After the show, families can enjoy a stroll through a picturesque park nearby, adorned with decorative plants and fountains.

Another engaging spot for kids is the National Museum of Wildlife of Turkmenistan, which opened in 2010. Located in the outskirts of Ashgabat, the museum features a zoo set in a natural environment spanning about 40 hectares. The zoo is home to over 250 animal species, including a large bird pavilion and a terrarium. Visitors can see common local animals and birds, interact with domestic animals in designated enclosures, and enjoy an aquarium showcasing Caspian Sea creatures. The zoological center is attractively designed with artificial lakes, fountains, and playgrounds for younger visitors.

One of Ashgabat’s most extraordinary entertainment venues is the Alem Center. The center boasts a distinctive pyramid-shaped building with a massive 57-meter Ferris wheel at its core. This closed-type Ferris wheel is the largest of its kind in the world. The Alem Center offers various activities, including a space-themed museum with interactive exhibits, several excellent observation decks, and cozy restaurants and cafes with an array of dishes and desserts favored by children.

The World of Fairy Tales of Turkmenbashi, the largest and most beautiful amusement park in the country, is another great family destination. Spanning 33 hectares and inspired by local folklore, the park features a small train for easy transportation around the grounds. It includes numerous rides, playgrounds, and an additional Ferris wheel. Many attractions are housed in covered pavilions, making it an enjoyable visit in any weather. The park also has a small ethnographic museum and an aquarium where children can learn about the fish species of the Caspian Sea.

Ashgabat is home to several beautiful parks, including historic ones that offer excellent spots for relaxation with children. Victory Park, one of the most scenic and well-maintained, features numerous trees providing shade, with benches placed underneath for a comfortable rest even on the hottest days. The spacious park is ideal for leisurely strolls and active play.

The Mall of Inspiration park area is another attractive outdoor location. It consists of a lovely shaded alley with many trees and picturesque flower beds, adorned with statues dedicated to renowned artists and writers. Among the city’s parks, this one is considered unique and provides numerous opportunities for interesting photographs.

In recent years, Ashgabat has seen the opening of many modern shopping and entertainment centers. Each center offers a range of attractions, including contemporary cinemas, bowling alleys, and children’s rides and play areas. These modern venues are perfect for spending time during the hottest parts of the day when outdoor activities might be too uncomfortable.

For families with older children, the surrounding areas of Ashgabat offer fascinating nature reserves and natural landmarks. Several equestrian centers in the vicinity are always welcoming guests, offering horseback riding lessons and trail rides.
