On October 17, 2011, coinciding with the celebration of Turkmenistan’s 20th Independence Day, the Turkmenistan Television and Radio Broadcasting Center was officially inaugurated on a ridge of the Kopet Dag mountain range, approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Ashgabat. This 211-meter-tall structure became the tallest building in the country. The construction, carried out by the Turkish company Polimeks, was completed in a record time of 18 months with a staggering budget of $350 million.

The new television tower quickly became a defining symbol of Ashgabat. Its silhouette, highlighted by the immense eight-pointed Oguzkhan Star—which is recorded in the Guinness World Records—can be seen from every corner of the city. At night, the brightly illuminated star seems to hover above the Turkmen capital.

The Turkmenistan Television and Radio Broadcasting Center, located on the slopes of the Kopet Dag range, is a prominent feature visible from anywhere in the city. With its height of 211 meters, it ranks among the tallest structures in the country. The center stands at an altitude of 1,020 meters above sea level at the highest point of the eastern section of the «Health Trail» (Saglyk Ýoly), a multi-kilometer pedestrian route. To the east of the tower, the Ashgabat cable car line «Asma Ýoly» has been operating since 2006.

The center has earned its place in the Guinness World Records due to the monumental Oguzkhan Star, recognized as the largest architectural representation of a star in the world. The surface of this structure, which houses the floors of the main section, is covered in blue mirrored glass, making the enormous star visible from dozens of kilometers away.

The new television center is not only a technical marvel but also a tourist attraction. The plaza in front of the complex features distinctive fountains, and a decorative platform for visitors is located at the entrance. There are both covered and open parking areas. On the 29th floor, at a height of 142 meters, there is a revolving restaurant offering panoramic views. The restaurant provides a cozy atmosphere and high-level service, with its unique feature being its elevation, allowing guests to enjoy breathtaking views of Ashgabat and the surrounding Kopet Dag landscape. Additionally, the 30th-floor observation deck, located at 149 meters, offers stunning vistas of Ashgabat and the mountainous terrain. Visitors are transported to these levels via high-speed elevators.

Please note that access to the interior of the television center is restricted, so it is advisable to arrange a visit through a travel agency.

The Ashgabat television tower is situated on a mountain plateau, 800 meters above the Ashgabat-Geoktepe highway, now Kopet Dag Avenue. A nearly 10.5-kilometer road with a median strip connects the tower to the highway. Alternatively, visitors can walk to the center from the eastern section of the Health Trail, starting from the medical centers in the southern part of the city or from the park at the beginning of the Trail. Bus number 59 also services this route, ascending from Chandibil Avenue and reaching the Turkmenistan Television Center.

The building spans over 60,000 square meters. The base of the center, which consists of five floors, has a trapezoidal shape. From the sixth and seventh floors, the base transitions into the Oguzkhan Star structure. The main section of the complex features thirty-one floors.

The Ashgabat television tower is topped by a 38-meter antenna designed to remain stable in seismic conditions. The broadcast signal has a coverage radius of up to 100 kilometers, reinforcing its significance as a key communication hub.
