In Ashgabat, the primary modes of transportation are buses and taxis, both of which provide convenient options for getting around the city. The public bus network in Ashgabat consists of over 90 routes, covering the entire city. These modern buses are equipped with air-conditioned stops, offering a comfortable ride. However, it is worth noting that there is no fixed schedule for buses. Instead, drivers wait at stops until they have a full load of passengers, which can sometimes lead to rapid driving. Fares are quite affordable, with a typical bus ride costing around 0.5 manats (about 10 cents), and payment is made directly to the driver upon exiting the bus.
For navigation, most bus stops feature a colorful city map and a list of routes serviced at that stop. Routes are color-coded on the map, and each route is listed with its operating intervals. Generally, buses run from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with popular routes having intervals of 5 to 8 minutes.
Minibuses, while available, are less favored by residents due to their tendency to be overcrowded. Minibus fares range from 2 to 2.5 manats, reflecting their slightly higher cost compared to buses.
